Peer Teaching

In small groups within our studio discipline, we created a scheme to show our peers the possibilities of Textile, Art & Artefact. As this is a fabric manipulation course, we chose to create a scheme based on batik.

Aim:

To explore line and shape through drawing and mark making to create a batik with the theme ‘life under water’.

Learning Outcomes:

Art:

  • 1.2 Respond to an artwork using critical + visual language

  • 1.12 Apply their understanding of the art elements and design principles to make an artwork

Craft:

  • 2.4 Show they can use their drawings to record, observe + analyse

Design:

  • 3.8 Discuss historical + contemporary design practices

  • 3.14 Utilise media in their own design work based on a brief

Learning Intentions:

  • To grasp the theme and record thought pathways in a visual mind map

  • Practice continuous, contour and blind drawing techniques as well as photography of textures

  • Identify the relevant AEDP used by their chosen artist through research

  • Use requirements given regarding balance ratio and size for final design

  • Respect and repeat procedures to carry out batik safely (health and safety)

Presentation

We created this presentation collaboratively. The presentation contains learning content, success criteria, learning intentions, support studies and visual aids. We had planned this entire scheme out lesson by lesson to show our peers the process.

Reflection

I think cooperative learning worked really well for me. It was great to work together and bounce ideas off each other. Myself and my partner worked really well together. We explored learning intentions and outcomes a lot in this project, expanding on verbs for cognitive, affective and psychomotor intentions.

I think this project has been very beneficial for my practice as an art teacher. I have noticed certain techniques that have repeatedly worked and am developing them into my methodologies.

Health and Safety was a big part of this Uol for me. I think I tackled this well with clear information on a handout, posters, and a quiz to check learning.
