Primary School Teaching,
2018

'St James’s Primary School is a safe, happy and friendly place where our children are given every opportunity to develop and grow physically, spiritually, intellectually and socially.' Mission Statement, stjamessps.com
Teaching placement in St. James' Primary School, Dublin 8 with third class pupils aged 7 and 8.
This project was based on Lucien Freud's Exhibition at the Irish Museum of Modern Art. This was a team teaching placement carried out by myself and a fellow student.
We accompanied the students to the exhibition and kept Freud's themes of portraits throughout the lessons.
We explored portraits through blind drawings and abstract painting processes. The students practiced marbling and painting with string as well as pointillism. We also introduced painting with watered down paint and blowing with straws. The students really enjoyed all of these activities. We carried out demonstrations for each task and guided the students throughout.

Presentation on the Scheme
Here is a presentation on the scheme with images of student's work. Each task was thoroughly enjoyed by the students.
Reflection
This was my first ever placement and we learned a lot from teaching students at such a young age. We learned about communication and demonstration. We learned about organisation and keeping things simple. I feel this placement really helped develop my teaching.
